Panama Day

Article written by Domenic Ferreri from Year 11

The Good Samaritan College community fundraised for the World Youth Day Panama pilgrims on Thursday 30th August. It was an exciting opportunity for the entire school to get involved in the journey of each pilgrim and get to know each of us on a personal level.

The first fundraising activity began at recess with the penalty shoot out soccer competition. Abraham Takriti of Year 11 won a pizza lunch for him and four friends as he scored the most consecutive goes. On behalf of the pilgrims, I would like to thank Mr Catanea, Mr Oyarzun and Mr Chircop, who helped demonstrated excellent skills as goalies.

The second fundraising opportunity was at lunch, where a sausage sizzle was sold. It was incredible to see the amount of people supporting the lunch and enjoying the atmosphere, with South American music playing under P Block. The entire day made the journey to Panama even more real. Thank you to Miss Romolo who organised the day for us and thank you to all teachers and students who helped fundraise. World Youth Day is such a rewarding spiritual journey and we are all truly thankful for the Good Samaritan Community supporting us throughout the day.

Thank you and God bless.
