“The Good Samaritan is not just a parable. It is a way of life”

The Gospel reading last Sunday was the famous parable of the prodigal son. Like the parable of the Good Samaritan, it is one that continues to be a story that everyone can relate to in some capacity. I have particularly enjoyed leading our Lenten Prayer Group each Tuesday morning as we have a perfect opportunity to reflect and discuss the weekly Gospel reading. This week, in discussing the prodigal son, our thoughts shifted towards the older brother in the story rather than the younger son that is traditionally the title figure of the story. We did this because it is the brother that questions the father’s decision who we are most likely to embody in our own lives. How often can we think of times when we have believed that we should be rewarded simply for doing our jobs? If we do so with a resentful heart then the good that we do is rather shallow. As we get closer to Easter let us remember the selflessness of Jesus Christ as he showed the ultimate love and mercy by dying on a cross for us. More and more have I seen the parable of the prodigal son renamed as the parable of the merciful father, and it is in the father that we see what love truly is. A love that is patient and kind, and eternal.

Project Compassion

In recent weeks we have seen the students and staff of the College continue to give Lent 100% by supporting various fundraising initiatives for Project Compassion. It was pleasing to see that throughout the Athletics Carnival we were able to raise over $800 through voluntary donations. With one week left until the holidays our school total has reached $5029.80 which is a fantastic effort by staff and students. It is still hoped that with a few more initiatives and PC boxes still to count before the end of term that we will get closer to the bold target of raising $10,000.
